Prepare devices for Lens collection

Start with discovery access

Network discovery supports SNMPv2c and SNMPv3. Confirm that the agent host can reach the device's management interface over UDP SNMP, then add the approved credentials in the local agent setup UI.

Use read-only management access

1. Create a dedicated, least-privilege account or API credential for assessment collection.
2. Allow access only from the agent host or its management subnet.
3. Use SSH or the supported management API when you need configuration evidence beyond SNMP discovery.
4. Test one device first, then expand the approved target ranges.

Know what your platform supports

Many common network platforms support SNMP discovery plus read-only SSH or API collection. Some devices are intentionally API-only, and generic SNMP devices may provide inventory evidence without a full configuration pull. Browse the manufacturer and platform device guides before configuring access for a specific device.

Finish the setup

Return to the local agent setup UI, enter the approved SNMP and management credentials, select the approved ranges, and start discovery. Review the uploaded inventory and findings in the Network assessment before moving to a wider scope.
