Lens quick start

Connect and assess your first Lens network

Sign in, set an approved scope, and use the right Lens workflow to establish network visibility and get a useful first result.

Before you begin

Lens access is provisioned for your organization. Sign in with the Emberix account that was invited to the organization; if you do not have an invitation or cannot see the right client, contact Emberix.

To create an assessment or add an agent, you need an Owner, Admin, or Operator role for that client. Viewers and billing administrators can review results but cannot set up assessment work.

  • Have written authorization for the domains, networks, hosts, or applications you plan to assess.
  • For Network, internal Cyber, or Application Discovery work, identify a trusted host inside or near the target network. It must be able to reach the approved targets and Lens over HTTPS.
  • For Network assessments, prepare the least-privileged SNMP and, where needed, SSH or management API credentials. Keep credentials approved and scoped to the intended devices.
Keep the scope specific. Only scan networks, hosts, and domains you are authorized to assess. Put the agent on a trusted host with the access needed for that approved work.

Create the right assessment

After signing in, select Assessments and create a new assessment for the client. Choose the workflow that matches your goal:

  • Network Assessment inventories reachable network devices and gathers approved network evidence.
  • Cyber Assessment assesses public domains. Add internal/private targets only when you have authorization and an in-network agent; external-only Cyber work does not need an agent.
  • Application Discovery finds applications and services on approved hosts or subnets. Confirm the scan authorization before creating it.

Enter only the domains, IP ranges, hosts, or subnets in scope. Add concise context for the assessment so reviewers understand what the result represents.

Run the first collection

  1. For an agent-based assessment, add an agent from the assessment and use the download or install instructions Lens provides.
  2. Claim the agent on the trusted host using the displayed one-time token. The token is tied to that job and expires after 24 hours; reissue it in Lens if it expires.
  3. Open the local agent setup UI. For a Network assessment, add the approved device credentials and target ranges, then start collection. For internal Cyber or Application Discovery, verify the displayed targets and start the authorized scan.
  4. Wait for the run to finish and return to the assessment in Lens.

For the exact Linux and Windows installation steps, continue with the Agent quick start.

Review your first useful result

For a Network assessment, confirm that the run produced device inventory, topology, findings, and evidence artifacts. Use those results as the foundation for ongoing network visibility and monitoring. For Application Discovery, review discovered services in Inventory → Applications. Cyber assessments keep internal findings and risk results separate from public attack-surface results.

What to do next

Resolve any access or scope errors before widening the assessment. Then use the device configuration overview and the matching manufacturer guide to prepare device access, or contact Emberix with the assessment type and the step where you are blocked.
